DANBURY, Conn. — Phillip Aucoin scored twice as the Danbury Whalers rallied with five straight goals, including three on the power play, to beat the Thousand Islands Privateers, 5-3, in a Federal Hockey League game Saturday at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Thousand Islands (21-26) raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, thanks to goals by Corey Belisle, Max Mobley and Peter Campbell, before Danbury (23-20) rattled off four in the second period. Aucoin added an empty-netter in the third with one minute, four seconds left to put the game out of reach.

Mike Atkinson scored the game-winning goal with 1:53 left in the second.

Mike Brown made 32 saves for the Whalers. Matt Anthony made 27 saves for the Privateers.

The win puts Danbury nine points ahead of Thousand Islands for the second seed in the upcoming FHL playoffs. The Whalers have three games in hand on the Privateers.

Thousand Islands hosts Danbury at 6:05 p.m. Monday.
