Esther J. Frary


Esther J. Frary 95, of Canton formerly of North Lawrence died Monday February 18, 2013 at the Maplewood Nursing home in Canton, NY. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Hopkinton on September 24, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Fay and Jennie Dewey. She attended North Lawrence High School, and obtained her GED in 1978.

On September 24, 1935 she was united in marriage to the late Orlando (Andy) Frary.

She worked at the St. Lawrence School from 1956 until her retirement in 1979.

During the summer months she was employed as a cook at the Kildare Club in Tupper Lake.

Esther enjoyed volunteering at the Potsdam Hospital during the late 80’s into the early 90’s She was an active member of the North Lawrence Methodist Church. Along with her volunteer work she was a member of the Norla and Nicholville chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, snowmobiling, writing poetry, walking and playing golf

She is survived by one daughter; Constance E. Deno of North Lawrence. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren . Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Velma Brown and Verna Hunkins, one brother Hubert and a son Donald.

Calling hours will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in North Lawrence on Saturday February 23, 2013 from 1-3pm with a funeral service at the funeral home at 3pm. Burial will be in the spring at the Hill Crest Cemetery.
