Melinda R. Roberts, 44, Watertown, is to be transported soon to a state prison, so on Thursday she settled new charges lodged by Watertown police.

Ms. Roberts was charged Wednesday with petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. When arraigned Thursday in City Court, she pleaded guilty to petit larceny, and the child-endangerment count was dropped.

Part-time City Judge Catherine J. Palermo granted her a conditional discharge, with a condition being she attend a drug rehabilitation program, and assessed court fees amounting to $110.

She was returned to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building to await her ride to prison. She was sentenced Feb. 7 in Jefferson County Court to a prison term of up to four years for violating probation on her 2010 conviction for felony aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while intoxicated. She may be given an opportunity to participate in the state’s Willard Drug Treatment program, which would shorten her sentence to three months.

Police charged her in an incident on New Year’s Eve, when she shoplifted items priced at $90 at Cracker Barrel, 1289 Coffeen St., while accompanied by a 15-year-old boy.
