OBGC stays unbeaten in rally


MALONE - The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club was forced to make a significant regrouping to maintain its perfect Franklin CYO Basketball League season on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Academy.

The OBGC found itself in unfamiliar territory trailing by eight points in the third quarter. Coach Tom Luckie Jr. was able to fire up a somewhat lethargic squad which responded with a 16-2 run to pull out a 59-51 victory.

David Tomford led the winners with a double-double 20 points and 12 rebounds. Daniel Moulton scored 15 points, followed by Konnor Murdock with 12. Ryan Petell added nine points and Alec Manke scored two. Devan Monette led Bangor with his own double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Danny Sanchez with 12 points. Cole LaFlesh also recorded a double-double as he scored 10 points and had 14 rebounds.

The OBGC squad, now 11-0 on the season, will host a rematch with Bangor today at 4 p.m.

In the splinter contest, Spencer Mayette led OBGC with 16 points in a 38-26 win. Aidan Shea tallied 11 points followed by Zade Lesperance with 6 points and Zach Worden with four. Christian Tomford added 2 points and Zach Ashley scored 1. Chateaugay was led by Tyler McCann with 9 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Damian Thurston with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

North Star 68, Papa’s Dairy 50: Alex Shackett led North Star with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Mike LaVoie followed with 17 points. Wally Poupore led Papa’s Dairy with 15 points and Tyrek Sneed scored 11 points with 16 rebounds. Maranatha 67, St. John Bosco 57: Ben Haug turned another outstanding double-double performance with 22 points and 23 rebounds to lead the winners. Matt Fish added 21 and Tony DeStefano chipped in with 14. Corey LaMere led St. Johns Bosco with a personal best league season high 42 points.

Bangor 62, Chateaugay 58: Devan Monette scored 11 of his game high 18 points in the third quarter, which helped Bangor build a 12 point lead, which proved necessary as Chateaugay battled back to within two with less than a minute to play. Josh Juntunen led the Chateaugay comeback attempt with eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter

Note: Bangor (today 4 p.m.) and Chateaugay both have makeup games with OBGC.

Playoffs begin Saturday: OBGC draws opening round bye.
