Steve and Lorie (Burns) Ames, Black River, announce the engagement of their daughter, Bridgette Elizabeth Ames, Woodside, to Benjamin Nugent, also of Woodside.

Miss Ames graduated in 2003 from Carthage Central School and in 2007 from Syracuse University, with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She completed a two-year term of service with the Peace Corps in Kyrgyz Republic. Miss Ames works for the American Red Cross of Greater New York and is pursuing a master’s degree in social work at Fordham University, New York City.

Mr. Nugent, son of George and Marilyn Nugent, Watertown, graduated in 2004 from Watertown High School and in 2010 from SUNY Canton, with certification in plumbing and heating repair. He is a plumbing technician in Brooklyn.

A Sept. 21 wedding in Watertown is planned.
