CASTORLAND — The village is moving forward with a $2.3 million sewer project.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation issued the village a consent order in March 2007 because of poor sewer output samples, Village Clerk Donna M. Loucks said.

Robert Boliver of Bernier, Carr & Associates, Watertown, spoke to the Board of Trustees at its Feb. 12 monthly meeting to describe the design phase of the project. Mrs. Loucks said the plan calls for the construction of a lagoon to replace one of the existing ponds off Route 410 near the Black River. The new lagoon would include an aeration system.

Mrs. Loucks said the village has received a $750,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant and in December was notified that $1.23 million would be awarded by the Environmental Facilities Corp. In keeping with grant requirements, construction on the project must begin by June 1, according to the village clerk.

In other business, the board set a budget work session for its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. March 12 at Karcher Country Estates, 4892 State Route 410.
