I am writing in response to the article, “Energy, security boosting economy” by Kenneth Schwarz. I very much agree with his point of energy security and economic benefits.

However, I would like to point out that those benefits are of little value if the world we exist in is befouled and unfit to live in. We need to ensure that environmentalists’ views are also a part of the process.

Extreme views on either side of any issue are always the enemy. The correct way to move forward is to work together in a cooperative way so what we are maintaining a secure, prosperous, healthy world for ourselves, our children and grandchildren.

I have worked in the paper industry my entire working life, so I have seen the effects of industry on both sides of the issue. I am not a “tree hugger,” but I am concerned about both the economic health and well-being of ourselves and future generations.
