LOWVILLE As expected, Lewis County legislators moved forward Tuesday with plans to add all-terrain-vehicle trails near Constableville and alter the ATV permit program.
Lawmakers added 11.1 miles of off-road trails in the town of West Turin to the countys ATV system and set public hearings for 5 p.m. Tuesday on proposed laws opening more than four miles of Byrons Corners, Highmarket and Mackay roads segments to ATV traffic.
An initial plan legislators rejected in July featured only 7.8 miles of off-road trails and a connection between Byrons Corners and Highmarket roads that has been eliminated.
Lawmakers also set a public hearing for Tuesday on a proposed law changing the ATV permit fee to $65 for the first machine and $20 for each additional machine, eliminating any club member discount.
Initial permits now cost $40 for an ATV owned by a member of a club in the Tug Hill Adirondack ATV Association and $80 for a machine owned by a nonmember.
