County Chamber looking for vendors for artisan, food show during Bassmaster Tournamnent

WADDINGTON – While the Bassmaster Elite Tournament is still six months away, organizers say it isn’t too early to begin planning events.

The Bass Anglers Sportsman’s Society Bassmaster Elite Series: St. Lawrence River Showdown will be held from Aug. 8 to 11 and is expected to draw in hundreds of anglers, thousands of fishing fans from U.S. and Canada and national media and event production crews.

The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce has begun organizing a fair around the big event called Tastes and Talents of the North Country in Whitaker Park from Aug. 9 to 11. The county Chamber is already looking for vendors, products and business to participate in the event.

“It takes many months to pull off an event like this,” chamber events and program coordinator Jo Ann Roberts said Tuesday.

The family-oriented, three-day event will showcase the offerings of the north country and feature wine, food, crafts, beer, arts and artisans, children’s activities, music and much more. There also will be some demonstrations by local artisans and wildlife enthusiasts.

The event will not just be for vendors, but for businesses and community groups to promote the area.

“Other local chambers will advertise their own areas,” Ms. Roberts said. “Realtors will also be on hand to showcase what the area has to offer. We want to try to get the word out to the anglers and the thousands of people that come into the area what a great area we live in. Many people who come here will want to come back.”

The festival, which will be free and open to the public, will be paid for by vendor fees.

In the coming weeks, booth information and pricing will be available once a site plan is received by the Bass Anglers Association, Ms. Roberts said. For booth and rental information, vendors and business can contact Ms. Roberts at 386-4000 or

Hotels, bed and breakfasts, attractions, restaurants, fishing-related businesses, campgrounds and anyone involved with the county’s tourism industry can also find other ways to participate in the event by taking part in information sessions held by the county Chamber.
