LOWVILLE — A four-month investigation headed by Lowville village police, with assistance from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department and state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, led to the arrest Wednesday of a couple on charges that they sold marijuana on several occasions in the village.

Luis J. “June” Pabon Jr., 39, was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sale of marijuana, a class E felony, and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, both misdemeanor charges.

Chantel M. Bergen, 21, was charged with one count each of third-degree and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Mr. Pabon and Miss Bergen were arraigned Thursday before Lewis County Court Judge Daniel R. King and sent to Lewis County jail, with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond for Mr. Pabon and $1,000 cash for Miss Bergen.

The pair, formerly of River Street in the village, were apprehended Feb. 5 in New Haven, Conn., on a bench warrant issued by Judge King.

Both waived extradition and were brought back to Lowville by the state police violent felony warrant squad and Lowville police.

The charges stemmed from a previously sealed indictment handed down by a Lewis County grand jury, police said.
