POTSDAM - Cinema 10 presents The Sessions on Monday at the Roxy Theater in Potsdam. Show time is 7:15 p.m. This is the fourth film of the 40h anniversary Cinema 10 season.
From Australian American film-maker, Ben Lewin, comes the true story of Mark OBrien, a polio victim confined to an iron lung who, at 38, decides to lose his virginity at long last.
Director Lewin contracted polio at the age of six. For her turn as Marks sex surrogate, Helen Hunt was honored with an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress; John Hawkes(seen in Cinema 10s showing of Winters Bone) lead portrayal received standing ovations at the Sundance Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter said that The Sessions argues in favor of living a full life, whatever ones personal constraints, of not being intimidated by societal or religious dogma or, most of all, by ones fears.
The Sessions is in English; runs 95 minutes and is rated R for strong sexuality including graphic nudity and frank dialogue.
