CANTON - Watertown native John M. McHugh may step down as Army secretary during President Barack Obamas second term, according to a report from the Army Times.
The report, published Monday, discussed the possibility of Army undersecretary Joseph Westphal taking over the position if Mr. McHugh were to leave. The story cited unnamed defense sources in discussing Mr. McHughs potential exit.
Mr. McHugh, who took the position in September 2009, previously represented the north country in Congress for about 17 years. His time in the House of Representatives included service on the Armed Services Committee and the Army Caucus.
