A lawsuit that aims to strike down the NY SAFE Act on the grounds that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo abused his power to waive the mandatory three-day legislative review period to pass his gun control bill has prompted a state court to review the law.
On Friday, State Supreme Court Justice Gerald Connolly signed an order directing the governor and other legislative leaders to appear at a hearing on March 11 and to show cause why the case should not proceed.
The lawsuit, which was started by lead plaintiff Robert L. Schulz, was organized through We the People of New York, Inc., a nonprofit corporation of which Mr. Schulz is a director.
It has garnered 1,256 plaintiffs from 58 counties and bears approximately 90 notarized signatures from Jefferson County.
