Martha M. Parrish, 91, Holcomb Street, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Samaritan Medical Center.
Miss Parrish was born on October 15, 1921, in Harkness, NY, a daughter of Harry C. Parrish and Carrie Smith. Miss Parish lived with her mother until she was forty, when her mother needed extended care and entered a nursing home. Miss Parrish then lived at Rome State School, Sunmount Developmental Care and then entered Family Care. In Family Care, she lived with the Salter family for twenty seven years, becoming very close and remaining close to Alyce Salter. Even after she moved to a Jefferson Rehabilitation Facility the Salter family sent cards and correspondence to her, becoming her extended family.
She attended the Day Habilitation Program at JRC and she was close to her advocate Joanna Moore. Miss Parrish loved her cat; Miss Kitty, music, magazines, shopping, rides, puzzles and slot machines.
A funeral service will be on Thursday at 11 am at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. with Reverend Leon Schilling officiating. Calling hours will be 9-11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery immediately following.
