A town of Watertown woman was referred to Jefferson County Drug Court after admitting Thursday in County Court that she was intoxicated in November when she crashed her vehicle with three children as passengers.

Kjerstin L. Krohn, 37, of 17951 North VanAllen Road, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child as a passenger. She admitted she was intoxicated Nov. 1 when her vehicle struck a utility pole on County Route 67 in the town of Watertown.

Police said at the time that Mrs. Krohn and an 11-year-old girl were taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries, while two other children, a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, were not injured.

Following her admission, she was referred to Drug Court, a substance abuse rehabilitation program that serves as an alternative to incarceration.

District Attorney Cindy F. Intschert said that if Mrs. Krohn successfully completes the program, her felony DWI conviction will be vacated and she will be allowed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor DWI count.

She then would be sentenced to three years’ probation and a $1,000 fine, have her driver’s license revoked and be ordered to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle she owns or operates.

If she is unsuccessful, Mrs. Intschert said, the felony conviction will stand and she will be sentenced to one to three years in state prison. She further would be fined $3,500, have her driver’s license revoked and be subject to the interlock provision.
