The Medical Society of Jefferson County is again offering health career scholarships.

Local students who are pursuing a career in an accredited health-related field such as nursing, pharmacy, physical or occupational therapy are encouraged to apply. Medical students are eligible to apply but not pre-med students.

Awards are made on the following criteria: academic success (85 percent average or above), financial need, personal essay and two references.

Previous winners are encouraged to reapply. Those interested should contact their guidance counselors for application forms.

For more information, contact scholarship chairwoman Hildegard Willis at 785-5539. Applications must be completed entirely and returned by the April 20 deadline. Last year, 10 students were each awarded $1,000.
