UTICA - Leads proved to be dangerous for Section 10 teams in the state high school hockey championship semi-finals in Utica on Saturday.
Massena took a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the second period on a Ryan Moffitt goal before McQuaid scored two late goals in the second period and added three more in the third to skate to a 5-1 lead.
St. Lawrence Central held a 4-1 lead over John Jay midway through the third period before the Indians scored two goals in an 11-second span to get back into the game before evening the score minutes later, scoring the game winner with just under a minute left in regulation and even added an empty net goal as an exclamation point.
Sophomore forward Lukas Arquiett led the Larries with two goals and seniors Blake Baldwin and Jarek Crump also scored for SLC.
McQuaid will face Saratoga for the Division I title, while John Jay will face off against CBA-JD (Syracuse) for the Division II title Sunday afternoon at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
