West Turin crash results in felony DWI charge

TURIN — A Port Leyden man faces a felony driving while intoxicated charge after being involved in one-vehicle accident early Saturday in the town of West Turin.

Andrew J. Loadwick, 27, Marmon Road, was also charged by Lewis County sheriff’s deputies at 2 a.m. after he allegedly failed to slow down for a stop sign while traveling on West Road, slid through the intersection with Route 26 and across the highway, hitting a snow bank. No one was injured.

Police allege his blood alcohol content was 0.15 percent, which is above the state’s minimum legal level of 0.08 percent to be considered proof of intoxication. The DWI charge was a felony because Mr. Loadwick has a 2010 conviction for misdemeanor aggravated DWI, police said. He was also charged with failure to stop at a sign and is due to answer the charges in West Turin Town Court at a later date.
