Lisbon public hearing today to discuss site plan review changes

LISBON – The Town Council is hosting a public forum today at 6:15 p.m. at the Town Hall to discuss changing town law to allow the code enforcement officer to sign off on plans for single family dwellings without consulting the Planning Board.

Town Supervisor James W. Armstrong said the proposed law came about after speaking with members of the Planning Board and Code Enforcement Officer Christopher J. Sherwin.

Councilwoman Susan M. Duffy said Tuesday she is not happy about the proposed change to the law because it does not lift the requirement that single-family home must be built on land at least one acre in size and does not give Mr. Sherwin the ability to approve plans for multiple residences on a single property.

“We need to get serious about how we’re dealing with things,” Ms. Duffy said.

Ms. Duffy said the Planning Board should only be responsible for reviewing business site plans.

Under the current framework, the Planning Board give final approval to building plans Mr. Sherwin has deemed permissible.

“To me it’s a waste of time to have volunteers come out and look at a permit that the code officer has already approved,” Ms. Duffy said.

Ms. Duffy said she wants as many residents as possible to show up to the public forum.

“It’s a call to action; we need residents in the community to have a voice there. We need to hear from this town,” she said.
