To The Editor:

The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club’s 2013 $1,000 early-bird Expo drawing will be held Sunday evening (St. Patrick’s Day) between 7 and 8 p.m. at Hosmer’s Marina. The $1,000 has been donated by the Oddfellows and Moose Lodge 814. Everyone is invited to be present for the drawing. Who knows? If you hold a ticket, you could be a big winner.

Tickets purchased up until the time of the drawing Sunday night will be eligible to win the $1,000. All tickets in the early-bird drawing will also be part of the entire fundraiser drawings on the March 24. That will take place in the Edgar A. Newell II Memorial (Golden Dome) at the close of this year’s Expo.

The Expo is the major fundraiser of the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club each year. The club has an annual budget of more than $310,000. This year the club Board of Directors has budgeted gross revenue of $110,000 from this year’s Expo. That’s before expenses have been taken out.

A $10 donation to purchase a ticket is tax deductible.

The Ogdensburg and Girls Club has an active membership of more than 800 boys and girls from the Greater Ogdensburg community. In addition there are 1,000 boys and girls from Hammond to Malone, including boys and girls from Massena, Madrid, Waddington, Potsdam, Canton, and Gouverneur who take advantage of the club’s programs.

Volunteers are needed this weekend and next week to help sell tickets. Tickets are being sold at St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union locations, local banks, Kimro’s Medicine Place, Phillips Diner, Mort Backus and Sons, and Ruby’s Roadside Grill on Route 68. Board members Andy Manke and Julia Wears are in charge of the tickets this year.

The club’s board and staff are doing a great job. The community can be very proud of its Boys and Girls Club.
