POTSDAM After building a big lead, the Clarkson University mens lacrosse team barely escaped a nonconference game at SUNY Potsdam, winning 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Knights (3-1 overall) scored the first seven goals of the game and then held off a fourth-quarter rally by SUNY Potsdam.
Matthew Gold led Clarkson with four goals. Matt McCabe, Peter Goss, Corey Herrington and Jeff Sciera also scored for the Golden Knights.
Robbie Ashlaw led the Bears (1-1) with three goals, all which came in the final 3 minutes, 33 seconds of the game. Pat Morill scored twice for the Bears, and Rob Kunz and Jeff Seager also scored.
BOWDOIN 9, ST. LAWRENCE 6
The Saints (2-2) held a 6-4 lead after three quarters but Bowdoin scored five in the fourth to claim a nonconference win in Washington, D.C.
Billy Bergner and Will Wise scored two of the goals for the Polar Bears (1-1) in their rally.
WOMENS LACROSSE
ST. LAWRENCE 11, KEENE STATE 6
Bridid Hurley scored three goals to lead St. Lawrence (2-1) past Keene State in a nonconference game in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Carly VanTassel, Stephanie ORourke and Michaela Maybee each scored twice for SLU. Holly Noyes and Joey Kelley added single goals.
Eliza Witherbee and Lauren Brown both tallied two goals for Keene Staet (1-3). Julie Trombetta and Polly Grey also scored.
BASEBALL
ST. LAWRENCE 16,
PITT-BRADFORD 0
Brian Magovney went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead the Saints (2-3) in a nonconference game in Fort Myers, Fla.
Paul Piatelli had three hits for the Saints while Mark Syron, Jeff Kott, Zane Fish and Matt DeLuca each added two.
Chris Kellogg threw six innings and gave up just four hits to pick up the win for the Saints.
SOFTBALL
SAINTS SPLIT IN FLORIDA
Rebecca Allen went 2-for-3 and drove in a run to lead St. Lawrence (5-3) to a 6-5 win over Texas-Dallas in the first of two nonconference games in Clermont, Fla.
Kyle Plimpton struck out six for the Saints. Stephanie Harrris and Avery McHugh each supplied two hits for Texas-Dallas.
Wesleyan routed the Saints 9-1 in SLUs second game of the day as Allee Beatty delivered three hits and Tori Redding added two hits and three RBIs.
Leslie Stratton led the Saints, going 2-for-4.

Michael Hayden, John Megas and Rhonny Rosario each won a singles match and were on a winning doubles team to lead St. Lawrence (5-2) past Roger Williams in a nonconference game Tuesday night in Orlando.
