The 10th Annual Ogdensburg NYWAY Youth Wrestling Tournament is gearing up for a record turnout on Sunday at the OFA Golden Dome.
Over 250 wrestlers ages 4-18 have registered for the tournament, said organizer Rick Ledwith.
This is our clubs biggest fundraiser and last year our OFA varsity program benefited from it with a sizeable donation toward outside tournaments. Our section has just six teams so we would wrestle five duel meets home and away. Without these outside tournament many of our wrestlers would only get 5-6 matches depending on forfeits.
Sundays tournament is a NYWAY sanctioned event and all wrestlers must have cards to participate.
Weigh ins will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Wrestlers must be within two lbs of their weight class.
A round robin format will be used and the Divisions will be as follows: ages D1 4-6, D2 7-8, D3 9-10, D4 11-12, D5 13-14, D6 15-16, and D7 17-18. All participants in D7 must still be in high school.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third places and medals for 4-6th place for D1-D3 will be presented. Team trophies will be also handed out for the top six teams entering 10 wrestlers of more.
A complete list of rules will be posted at the event.
Registration fee is $25 payable to Ogdensburg Youth Wrestling.
Admission is $3 adults and $2 students.
