Clarkson’s Wright continues scoring run

POTSDAM — Immaculate Heart Central product Christine Wright scored the first of her five goals just 24 seconds into the game and the Clarkson women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 13-3 nonconference victory over Keuka College on a cold Sunday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Wright scored the overtime winner in Clarkson’s win Friday.

Nicole Kelly provided three assists for Clarkson (3-0 overall), which will play a pair of nonleague games in West Palm Beach, Fla. this week.

Taylor Smith scored two goals for Keuka (1-1).

SUNY CANTON 8, CAZENOVIA 7

Tressa Goolden scored two goals and scooped up 10 ground balls as the Roos held off the host Wildcats for a nonconference victory.

Keely Rice and Brittani Bessette each added a pair of goals for SUNY Canton (1-2).

Alicia Priest led Cazenovia (1-2) with four goals.

MEN’S LACROSSE

MITCHELL 12, SUNY CANTON 1

Aaron Sladyk and Jordan Cook scored three goals apiece as Mitchell (4-2) routed the Roos in New London, Conn.

Patrick Connelly scored the lone goal for SUNY Canton (1-3), and Corey Spuck made nine saves.

BASEBALL

SUNY CANTON 8-2, PS GREATER ALLEGHENY 4-11

Jordan Hunneyman drove in three runs on three hits to lead the Roos to a win in the first game of their doubleheader split with Penn State Greater Allegeny in Butler, Pa.

Michael Zelyez and Gerardo Torres added two hits apiece for SUNY Canton (1-11).

In the second game, Evan James gave up two runs on four hits in a complete-game victory for PS Greater Allegheny.

JEFFERSON CC 5-2, HAGERSTOWN CC 2-7

Jake Welch struck out nine batters in five innings to earn the victory in the first game of the Cannoneers’ doubleheader split with the Hawks (1-1) in Hagerstown, Md.

Tyler Decker and Ariel Suriel each provided two hits in game one for Jefferson Community College (3-8).

SOFTBALL

SUNY CANTON 13-23, PS GREATER ALLEGHENY 0-1

Amanda Bitting finished with five hits and six RBIs overall as the Roos pounded Penn State Greater Allegheny for a doubleheader sweep in Butler, Pa.

Ashley Merritt and Andrea Rogers drove in four runs apiece for SUNY Canton (4-10).
