POTSDAM The village board terminated Potsdam police officer Michael J. Price after a closed-door meeting on Monday.
Mr. Price was hired in October to fill a vacancy in the police department. He served in the Navy for 14 years and received an honorable discharge. He was living in Potsdam at the time he was hired at a salary of $42,045.
The village board went into executive session to discuss his employment during Mondays regular meeting. Upon resuming regular session, the board voted 4-0 to end his employment.
Mayor Steven W. Yurgartis and Police Chief Kevin E. Bates both said they cannot comment on personnel issues and would not divulge the reason that led to Mr. Prices termination.
Mr. Price still was still in his probationary period with the department.
