Canton
Celebrates birthday: Together with friends and family, Doris Dominie recently celebrated her 100th birthday at the Maplewood Campus of United Helpers Nursing Home, Canton, where she is a resident.
Born Feb. 22, 1913, in Churubusco, she is the daughter of the late Alfred and Cora Miller Viancour. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm home on Cassidy Road, Hermon. On April 14, 1931, she married Leonard Dominie. The couple were part of the Canton farming community for more than 40 years, until their retirement in 1972. Mr. Dominie died in 1989.
Mrs. Dominie has three children, Bernard Dominie, Margaret Ames and Jean Salton; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Canton
Honored: Cathy Carr, teacher at Banford Elementary School, Canton, was recently named an Outstanding National Agriculture educator by the New York Farm Bureau. Ms. Carr has taught for 25 years, incorporating agriculture into each of her subjects with first-, second- and third-grade students and using her school garden in lessons. She was the 2012 New York Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher of the Year.
