WADDINGTON – One lucky resident will have an opportunity to pick Waddingtons Homecoming theme this year.
Residents can submit their suggestions for this years theme either by text, email or in person until March 27 to Homecoming Chairperson Shelly L. Shirley.
We all sat around trying to come up with a theme, Ms. Shirley said Tuesday. We thought the Roaring 20s or something to do with the Bassmaster Elite Tournament, but in the end we decided it would be more fun to do a contest to see what other people can come up with.
Entry forms were placed at Madrid-Waddington Central School earlier this month.
The winning entrant will receive a large pizza and soda from Kunoco Food Mart, Waddington.
Ms. Shirley said plans for this years Homecoming are still a work-in-progress.
We plan on having the usual events - lip syncing and diaper derby, and fireworks, but wed like to throw something new in for the visitors, she said.
Waddingtons Homecoming is scheduled for Aug. 2, 3, and 4, one week before the Bassmaster Elite Tournament: St. Lawrence River Showdown. The town expects to see an influx of anglers, fans and their families leading up to the tournament.
The biggest issue is food vendors, she said. We usually have fried bread dough and a chicken dinner, but obviously this time we are going to have to feed a lot more people. If anyone is interested, we would really like them to contact us.
To submit an idea for Waddingtons Homecoming or sign up as a vendor, contact Shelly L. Shirley at shellylynne69@yahoo.com or 528-6938.
