MORRISTOWN — Philippe Bertrand of Ogdensburg was selected to win a $5,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund America’s Farmer Grow Communities program, the fund announced Wednesday.

Mr. Bertrand will donate the money to the village’s ice skating rink. The check will be presented at a ceremony Thursday at the fire hall.

Through the program, farmers sign up for a chance to win $2,500 for their favorite community nonprofit cause. Since St. Lawrence County was declared a disaster area by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Monsanto doubled its donation.

The program, aimed at highlighting farmer contributions to their communities, operates in 39 states.
