Dear Friends: The following article is from the Ogdensburg Ministerial Association. We hope you find it uplifting and informative. Today’s article is “The World Upside Down.”

By SR. MARY TERESA LABRAKE, GNSH

Pastoral Associate

St. Mary’s Cathedral

When we hear God and respond to Him, we risk suffering and even death. Yet these are the means He uses to turn the world upside down for our sake.

This coming week is dedicated to reliving that historical week in the life of Jesus in which His earthly destiny was brought to fulfillment. He was willing to die as He had been willing to live, that He might become the bond between His Father and us. He experienced fear and other people’s hatred of Him. He was despised and rejected like the servant of God in Isaiah. Isaiah describes for us the willingness of God’s suffering servant to listen to the voice of divine wisdom so that He will have the strength necessary to endure the reproaches that will be heaped upon Him (Isaiah 50:4-7).

God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to bind us to Him with the bonds of our love for one another. St. Paul urges us, as he writes to the Philippines 2:6-11, to practice the humility of Christ that led to His exaltation by the Father.

Had there been no sequel to this human failure, love would be an illusion, trust futile, and self-sacrifice for love of God and man, mere folly. But there was a sequel. God turned the world upside down when He raised Christ to glory. He brought life out of death and hope out of despair. He made it abundantly clear for all time how He wants us to hear and to respond to Him and to one another.

This coming week is the celebration of the freedom Christ has won for us. “Christ became obedient for us even to death, dying on the cross.” We pray that we may find in Him the unity we need to live Your gospel and be Your Church, a favor we address to You through Christ our Lord. Amen.
