SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music will host Grammy-winning American composer Libby Larsen for a visit and a concert performance featuring faculty and students in April.

The concert, featuring Ms. Larsen’s works and others, is at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. It’s free and the public is invited.

“Libby Larsen has ... made a mark on the national arts scene as an eloquent spokesperson for music, for the arts, and for the place of the arts in our cultural life,” said Michael Sitton, dean of the Crane School of Music.

Ms. Larsen, a native of Delaware, has created a catalog of more than 500 works, from intimate vocal and chamber music to massive orchestral works, including more than 15 operas. Widely recorded, with more than 50 CDs of her work, she has won Grammy Awards as well as the 2010 George Peabody Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Music in America.

As the 2013 visiting guest composer, Ms. Larsen will bring her expertise and perspective to discussions and workshops with Crane students, faculty and the campus community.
