On the first day of open gym last spring, OFA Girls Basketball Coach Lynn Blevins passed out tee-shirts offering the message of Our Time Is Now
On Thursday night, Coach Blevins spoke to the 2012-13 team for a final time at an awards banquet at the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge. He praised the Lady Devils for enjoying their season, their time, to the fullest.
I passed out those shirts to emphasize to you how important it is to enjoy your time playing sports, said Blevins.
I could not have been more impressed with any team. Everyone stuck together, there werent any problems and any time we had a picture taken everyone was smiling.
Blevins commended his players telling them they had a lot to smile about as they reflect back on a season well stocked with quality wins.
We won back our own tournament, we beat Malone twice for the first time in several years, we handed a talented Hammond team its only loss in the regular season, we beat an very strong Carthage team twice and we beat a Final Four team in Salmon River twice, said Blevins who was honored by his fellow coaches as the Co-Coach of the Year in the NAC Central Division with Cantons Mike Meyers.
And we didnt lose a Northern Conference game by more than five points. We were right there in every game.
Mollee Ahrens, Felicia Barr, Meg Dodge, Joceyln Fifield, Riley Luckie, Susie Morrow, Paige Perry, Courtney Sherwin and Shannon Tooley earned NAC All-Academic Awards and Sam King rounded a New York State Scholar-Athlete Team contingent which included all 10 players.
Meg Dodge earned First Team All-NAC honors and shared the teams Outstanding Defensive Player Award with Second Team All-NAC Central selection Felicia Barr.
Riley Luckie, a Second Team All NAC Central selection, was honored with the teams Outstanding Offensive Player Award. Shannon Tooley received the teams Miss Hustle Award, OFAs NAC Outstanding Sportsmanship Award and at Wednesday nights NAC Exceptional Senior Game she was recognized as the recipient of a Basketball Coaches of New York State Scholarship.
We had an excellent season and our seniors Felicia Barr, Jocelyn Fifield and Shannon Tooley deserve a lot of credit for keeping everything on track, said Blevins.
