POTSDAM The village will have relief next fall from the pressure a swelling student population puts on its rental housing market.
The Collegiate Village of Potsdam, featuring cottage-style student apartments, will welcome its first tenants in August, and the community is welcomed in for a sneak peak this spring.
For the whole month of April and May, we have open office hours, and well have people stationed at our model apartments, according to Jamie M. Jueckstock, community manager. Well have leasing agents available. Well have food and giveaways and promotional items. We really want the community to come out and check it out as well.
The three-bedroom apartments feature a common living area and kitchen on the first floor. Each bedroom is attached to a private bathroom, allowing students personal space.
The apartments, built and operated by Affinity Property Management, Buffalo, will feature in-unit clothes washers and dryers. When the complex is completed, it will accommodate more than 300 students, who have an option of 10- or 12-month leases.
A property like this, where we can provide students with so many great amenities, options of lease periods and a great quality of living, is a win-win for students, said owner Mark Chason. It has been our experience that a students housing choice makes a huge impact on their quality of life and success.
The company is building a 4,000-square-foot community center on the property that will feature an athletics center, study room, music room, lounge and patio.
The Potsdam project is the companys second foray into student housing; a similar community was completed in Buffalo in 2008.
An open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 19 through 23.
