MASSENA - Economic development officials in Massena would like to update an inventory of all available retail, commercial and industrial space in order to provide better information for businesses interested in the area.
Officials for the Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena hope the list will make planning economic development in Massena more convenient, helping bring in more potential businesses. The idea was welcomed by Supervisor Joseph D. Gray, who was present at the BDCs board meeting Thursday. I think it would do nice for us to have an inventory of everything we have, (stating theres) retail space here, industrial space here, Mr. Gray said.
BDC President Daniel S. Pease said not knowing the availability of business space is a common problem they encounter when working with potential developers. It becomes an issue all the time. It would be useful information to have, Mr. Pease said.
Although welcoming the idea, Mr. Pease did say that it may be impossible to cover all possible retail, commercial and industrial space in Massena. He said it would be inevitable that some space would be missed and suggested they ensure the list covers larger sites, such as the St. Lawrence Centre Mall.
BDC Executive Director Michael Almasian said they should start with the Massena Industrial Park, and then reach out to the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce to determine where retail and commercial space is available.
