George Jones, Jack Hanna, Sunshine Band and Village People booked for summer concert series

Concertgoers in Watertown this summer will be able to say farewell to a country legend and enjoy some wild times.

The Disabled Persons Action Organization announced the DPAO/Toyota/Car-Freshner Summer Concert Series last week. The lineup:

This unscripted program will provide insight into the protection and conservation of some of our planet’s most precious and endangered species.

Aug. 3: George Jones and his “Farewell Tour” at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Arena.

This country legend has received countless awards, culminating in 2012 when he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys. In 2002, Mr. Jones, 81, received the National Medal of Arts. He has notched 143 top 40 country hits. They include “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “The Grand Tour,” “Wine-Colored Roses” and “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?”

Aug. 9: KC & the Sunshine Band with the Village People at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Arena.

These two bands, popular in the 1970s, will bring their party atmosphere to the road together. KC and the Sunshine Band is known for such hits as “Sound Your Funky Horn,” “Get Down Tonight,” “Shake Your Booty” and “I’m Your Boogie Man.”

Village People hits include “YMCA,” “In the Navy” and “Macho Man.”

A fourth concert in the series is to be announced.
