Motorists accused of driving while intoxicated


Todd A. Connors, 46, of 25 Connors Road, Hogansburg, was charged at 9:08 p.m. Monday by state police with felony DWI after he allegedly was observed driving the wrong way on Route 37 in the town of Massena.

The charge is a felony due to a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years. He also was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, use of vehicle without an interlock device, operating out of interlock restriction, refusal to take a breath test and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Eric W. Shafer, 49, Middleport, was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated Tuesday by state police in connection with an accident earlier this month. Police said Mr. Shafer was driving his snowmobile near Hayes Road, Worth, about 2 a.m. March 3 when he lost control of the sled and it hit a tree. He was taken to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, where he was treated for a broken shoulder. While at the hospital, tests determined that he had been drinking, police said.
