Ogdensburg recreational fees go up

User fees for Ogdensburg’s three recreational facilities are going up.

“It was time for a change,” said Parks and Recreation Director Matthew J. Curatolo of the fee increases that were endorsed by the city recreation commission and approved Monday by the City Council.

The increases, ranging from $5 to $15 depending on the type of use and the user, apply to the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center, the Dobisky Visitors Center and the Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool.

Arena rates had been unchanged since 2009. The newly approved hourly arena rates are:

n Youth resident, $65, up from $60. This includes Ogdensburg Minor Hockey and Ogdensburg Figure Skating Club.

n Youth non-resident, $80, up from $75.

n Adult resident, $75, up from $70. This includes Young and Oldtimers hockey groups.

n Adult non-resident, $90, increased from $85.

n Birthday parties, $65, up from $55.

n Non-prime hours, $60 an hour, up from $55. The non-prime hours were also changed to Monday through Friday before 3 p.m., excluding holidays and school breaks. The previous non-prime time slot was after 10 p.m. Mr. Curatolo said Tuesday that slot was “rarely, rarely used.”

There is no rate change for non-ice hours – $40 an hour for non-profit events and $400 for the day for for-profit events.

The Dobisky Visitors Center rates, which were last changed in 2007, are:

n Large room for up to 75 people, $55 for four hours, up from $45.

nSmall room for up to 35 people, $35 for four hours, up from $25.

n Both rooms for up to 100 people, $90 for four hours, an increase from $75.

“You’re paying for location and top-of-the-line facilities,” Mr. Curatolo said.

The pool’s party rate will rise from $40 an hour to $50 an hour. For now, Mr. Curatolo said, the recreation commission has recommended not raising rates for any winter and summer programs or camps as well as regular admission rates at the pool.
