A Watertown native testified Wednesday before the Arkansas State Senate Committee on Education in support of a pending bill that would ensure children with dyslexia have their needs met by Arkansas public schools.

Robert F. Londraville, LaFargeville and Sherwood, Ark., remarked about how he was able to tutor a dyslexic student in Little Rock, Ark., from LaFargeville — over a distance of more than 1,000 miles — by use of the Internet.

Mr. Londraville testified that, by using video chat tutoring, he was able to help a 13-year-old “erroneously labeled” special education student living in a rural area turn her grades around, resulting in the girl’s raising her performance to the mainstream honor roll level.

His testimony followed that of Sen. Joyce A. Elliott, D-Little Rock, the bill’s sponsor. The bill passed the committee and now goes to the Arkansas Senate.
