A Brownville woman has been indicted on allegations that she broke into a town of Lyme residence in June with the intent to steal belongings.
Alice K. Kerr, 45, whose last known address was 10767 Middle Road, is charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth- and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The counts were contained in a grand jury indictment handed up Thursday in Jefferson County Court.
It is alleged that on June 18 she entered the residence of Krista Yott on Ashland Road in the town of Lyme and that she stole more than $1,000 worth of property.
Police said at the time of the incident that jewelry, a computer and a camera with a total value of more than $3,000 were stolen. It also is alleged that she damaged a window at the residence and that she possessed the stolen items June 22 in the town of Brownville.
In connection with the same incident, the grand jury ruled there was not enough evidence to support any felony charges against Brett W. Walker, 42, also of 10767 Middle Road, but the jury did return a prosecutors information charging Mr. Walker with a misdemeanor count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. It is alleged that some of the items reported stolen from the Yott residence wound up in Mr. Walkers possession.
In a second indictment handed up, Aaron J. Mercer, 31, whose last known address was 28312 Joyner Road, Theresa, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, operating an uninspected motor vehicle and failing to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of an address change. It is alleged that he drove while drunk Oct. 29 on Joyner Road without a valid inspection sticker on the vehicle.
