Ogdensburg Showtime is offering a chance for people to memorialize loved ones during its annual spring show to aid charities.

“It’s a chance to honor our great partnership with the community in the last 70 years,” Director Thomas A. Nichols said Thursday.

For $5, loved ones will be honored on a screen in the George Hall Auditorium at Ogdensburg Free Academy for three nights during a special part of the performance. Performances will be at 7:15 p.m. April 20 and 22 and 1:30 p.m. April 21.

Money raised from the memorials will go toward over 30 charities and nonprofit organizations, ranging from Catholic Charities and the American Cancer Society to volunteer fire departments.

“The need is so great this year,” Mr. Nichols said.

Showtime, sponsored by the Msgr. A.D. Charbonneau Council 258 Knights of Columbus, has benefited hundreds of charties over a 70-year period with its yearly variety show. Its longevity is a testament not only to its performers, but the north country community as a whole, Mr. Nichols said.

“Our community has a long-standing tradition of giving back,” he said. “One of the great things about Showtime is that we have a 70-year history of making difference right here in the community. Many of the great people who have contributed were never directly involved in Showtime. This is our chance to honor them.”

More details on this year’s show, themed “Made in America,” will be available in the coming weeks, Mr. Nichols said.

“We are hoping we will have a huge turnout this year,” he said. “There aren’t many opportunities for people to remember people so dearly. We hope people will come out and honor their loved ones and support the show and our charitable endeavors.”

To submit a name for the memorial, contact Darles A. Sovie at 393-5912.
