Swimming: Netto to compete at YMCA nationals

Michael Netto has qualified to represent the Watertown YMCA Blue Sharks swimming team at the YMCA Short Course National Championship on April 3-6 in Greensboro, N.C.

The Watertown High School junior is seeded 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke, 29th in the 200 breaststroke, 50th in the 200 individual medley and 137th in the 100 freestyle.

Netto captured YMCA state titles for ages 15-18 in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke, clocking a time of 57.78 seconds to break his meet record from last year. He also won the open 200 breaststroke and was sixth in the 50 freestyle for his age group. The state meet was at Ithaca College two weeks ago.

Last year at nationals, Netto finished 26th in the 100 breaststroke, 36th in the 200 breaststroke, 69th in the 200 IM and 121st in the 50 free.

n Nathanial Carlos of the Watertown YMCA Blue Sharks took first place at states in the 50 freestyle for boys ages 9-10. He and the seven others in his age group were undefeated dual meet and CNY league champions for the second straight year.
