CANTON — Mac Johnson scored with 7 minutes, 25 seconds left in regulation, to lead the St. Lawrence University men’s lacrosse team to a 4-3 upset of No. 17 Union in a Liberty League game Saturday.

Union (4-3 overall, 0-1 conference) built a 2-0 lead off goals from Jonathan Andrews and Richard Gregory. Greg Mooney also scored for the Dutchmen.

Cody Danforth, Alden Frelinghuysen and Pierson Fowler supplied goals for SLU (5-3, 2-0).

CLARKSON 8, RENSSELAER 7

Brandon Shearin scored three goals to lead Clarkson (5-3, 1-1) to a Liberty League win over the Engineers in Troy.

Corey Herrington added two goals for Clarkson while Robert Linder, Peter Goss and Dylan Broomfield also scored

Brett Overend led Rensselaer (5-4, 1-1) with three goals. Eric Valero scored two goals and David Hey and Colin Fortuner also scored for RPI.

SUNY POTSDAM 11, CASTLETON 8

The Bears (4-2) used a five-goal first period to knock off host Castleton (Vt.) in a nonconference contest.

Derek Frost scored three goals for SUNY Potsdam. Rob Kunz scored two goals with two assists and Pat Morill also scored twice.

Jeff Seager, Jared Flath, Pat Bonafede and Brady Fremont also scored.

Alex Green and Sam Bailey both scored two goals to pace Castleton (5-3).

SUNY CANTON 13, SUNYIT 12 (2 OT)

Garrett DiTullio scored with seven seconds left in the second overtime period to lead the Kangaroos (4-3) past SUNYIT in a nonconference game in Marcy.

Tanner Pratt, who scored with 1:27 left to send the game to overtime, finished with four goals for SUNY Canton.

Ryan Cardiff, Jason Thompson, Patrick Connelly and Rob Gleason all scored twice for the Kangaroos.

Kevin Gardvits scored five goals for SUNYIT (0-9). Tyler Serva scored three goals for SUNYIT.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

SUNY POTSDAM 18, MORRISVILLE STATE 5

Bailey Weigel, Whitney Boshart and Denise Johns each scored four goals to lead the Bears (2-3) past Morrisville State in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Michelle Varney tallied two goals and Katie Putnam, Emily Petit, Carolyn Herrer and Julie Perna each scored once.

Shelby Wood scored three goals for Morrisville State (1-5). Megan Carlin scored the other two goals.

ST. LAWRENCE 15, SKIDMORE 10

Brigid Hurley scored five goals to lead the Saints (5-4, 1-1) past Skidmore in a Liberty League game in Canton.

Michaela Maybee scored three goals and Holly Noyes added two. Carly VanTassel, Stephanie O’Rourke, Joey Kelley, Hannah Calvelli and Caroline Bailey also scored for SLU.

Lexi Melville led Skidmore (1-6, 0-2) with three goals. Emma Harris and Maggie Murphy both scored twice.

RENSSELAER 16, CLARKSON 5

Shannon Maguire scored five goals as Rensselaer handed Clarkson (6-1, 1-1) its first loss of the season in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

Lauren Miller, Michelle Denny and Erin Riley each scored twice for RPI (6-1 2-0).

Alyssa Cristaldi scored two goals for Clarkson. Katie VanDeValk, Christine Wright and Kerrie Cline also scored.

MONROE CC 18, JEFFERSON 2

Melanie Murphy tallied four goals as the Tribunes routed the Cannoneers in a Region III contest at Rochester.

Alexis Wilensky added three goals and three assists for Monroe Community College (6-0, 3-0).

Kaitlyn Rajner and Erica Gardener provided goals for Jefferson Community College (2-1).

BASEBALL

CLARKSON 6-3, SKIDMORE 0-5

Greg Jasek threw a four-hit shutout for the Golden Knights (5-7, 2-2) in the opening game of a Liberty League doubleheader split with Skidmore in Saratoga Springs.

David Wixted drove in two runs in the opener for Clarkson. John Coleman went 2-for-3 in game two.

Leejay Pollacchi and Erik Watkins each had two hits for Skidmore (5-7, 2-2) in the second game.

SOFTBALL

SUNY GENESEO 9-10, SUNY POTSDAM 1-2

Ashley Fillmore had two hits in each game and homered in the opener as the Blue Knights (6-10, 2-2) swept SUNY Potsdam in a SUNYAC doubleheader in Geneseo.

Heather Johnson had two hits in the opener and Amanda Perry went 2-for-3 in game two for SUNY Potsdam (5-5, 0-4). Canton native Samantha Brown went 2-for-3 for SUNY Geneseo in game two and Lexi Williams went 2-for-3, including a home run, and drove in five runs.

RIDING

SIX SAINTS QUALIFY

SLU had six riders qualify for the Zone 2 final in Long Island on April 7 at the Region 2 championship in Canton.

Emily D’Alessandro qualified in open equitation over fences and open equitation over flat.

Anna Hanson qualified in walk-trot-canter. Lauren Tahnenhaus and Casey Zuraitis qualified in intermediate equitation on the flat. Emma Jones qualified in novice equitation on the flat and Molly Coryer qualified in intermediate equitation over fences.
