Morristown may build new village garage

MORRISTOWN — The empty lot on Gouverneur Street next to Morristown Central School may become the site of a bigger village garage this year.

The village purchased the property from St. Lawrence County for $1, Mayor Cheryl A. Shatraw said.

“We’re looking at the possibility of putting a new village garage there,” Mrs. Shatraw said.

No dollar figure has been attached to the project, she said.

The goal would be to build a garage large enough to house all the village’s equipment.

Before anything is built, the village plans to clean up the property and build a better fence between it and the school.

Morristown Central School District Superintendent David J. Glover said he believes the project will enhance security at the school by allowing more space between the fence and the school’s windows.

That will make it easier for students to exit via the windows in the event of an emergency.

Mrs. Shatraw said more details will be available soon.

“We’ll be lucky to start during the summer,” she said.
