North Country Community College is inaugurating its sixth president this week, and a series of events open to the public is scheduled at the Malone, Saranac Lake and Ticonderoga campuses.
A reception for Steve Tyrell will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Reshetkina Hall on the Malone campus. Speakers will include Malone Mayor Todd M. LePine and Hugh Hill, executive director of the Malone Chamber of Commerce.
An art show, 24,471 and Counting, showcasing work by Malone students, staff and faculty, also will open today. Catering for the event will be from the Mill Cafe, and music will be performed by Nick Poupore and Mike Saulpaugh.
The official inauguration is set to take place at 3 p.m. Friday in the Sparks Athletic Complex at the Saranac Lake campus, and the public is welcome to attend.
Mr. Tyrell, a north country native, said he is pleased to move back.
I am thrilled to return home to the region and lead North Country Community College into its next phase, he said in a news release. Working with community leaders to advance workforce partnerships extends the impact of NCCC throughout our sponsoring counties.
Mr. Tyrell previously served as vice president for student affairs at Alfred State College, and has held administrative positions in colleges and universities across the country.
