ADAMS A local man involved in an early morning accident remained in serious condition Monday afternoon in a Syracuse hospital.
Mikel S. Hook, 21, Adams Center, was injured when he lost control of his speeding southbound 2003 Dodge Ram on North Main Street at about 2:30 a.m., according to the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department. The pickup truck went off the road, rolled and came to rest against a tree near Institute Street.
A sheriffs deputy observed Mr. Hook driving at a high speed and attempted to stop him but he fled, according to the Sheriffs Department. Mr. Hook had no passengers.
Earlier in the day, Sheriff John P. Burns said the crash had happened by the time the deputy turned his patrol car around. The pickup had reached speeds of more than 100 mph, the sheriff said.
The accident closed a section of the village for several hours. An investigation is ongoing.
The driver was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, and then transferred to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.
