Crosby heads area All-State picks


Hammond senior Alyssa Crosby was named to the New York State Sportswriters Association’s All-State First Team in Class D girls basketball, highlighting a total of 15 players selected from the Frontier League and Northern Athletic Conference.

Crosby averaged 18.6 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game this season while leading the Red Devils to a 21-3 record, a Section 3 Class D title and a state quarterfinal appearance. She was named the Times All-North Most Valuable Player for the NAC.

Other Class D selections are Courtney Boyea from Chateuagay (fourth team), Alexandria’s Lorraine Beard and Hammond’s Courtney Bova (fifth team), Copenhagen senior Logan Wheeler and Bridget Beldock of Madrid-Waddington (sixth team), and Heuvelton’s Maddie St. Pierre (seventh team).

In Class B, South Jefferson junior Austin Stevens was a third-team selection. Salmon River’s Abby Kelly (fourth team) and Ogdensburg Free Academy’s Megan Dodge (ninth team) were also honored in Class B.

In Class C, Kristin McGraw of Thousand Islands was named to the second team, while Canton’s Emily Rexford was chosen for the eighth team.

Zakiya Saunders of Carthage, the Frontier League All-North MVP, made the third team in Class A. Alisha Jacobs of Massena (seventh team) and Malone’s Morgan Fountain (10th team) were the other Class A selections.
