CARTHAGE The village Board of Trustees approved requests Monday for a veterans fundraiser and an event launching the summer food service program.
In response to a letter from Linda Kellaway of the American Legion Post 789 Auxiliary, the board authorized the group to distribute paper poppies in May. Hospitalized veterans make the red paper flowers and donations collected by distributing them aid the veterans.
Board members also approved a summer food service program kickoff through the Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County. Set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 26 in Carthage Park, the event is designed to raise awareness and encourage children younger than 18 to sign up for the summer lunch program, distributed through the village youth recreation program at the park.
CAPC is seeking vendors to participate.
Tables and chairs will be provided.
