Watertown man accused of choking a woman in front of her child

Eugene Muhammad Jr., 46, of 123 S. Meadow St., Apt. 4, was arrested by Watertown police at 6:10 p.m. Thursday on multiple charges, including second-degree harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, following a domestic dispute at his residence.

He is accused of throwing Anne M. Walton, Watertown, on the ground and choking her with his hands while she yelled for her 7-year-old son to call police Thursday evening, according to court documents.

Mr. Muhammad also faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was held Friday at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment in Watertown City Court.

Mr. Muhammad in 2008 was sentenced to five years’ probation on a traffic violation and for possessing cocaine. Last August, he was sentenced to a year of jail time in the PSB after pleading guilty to a felony driving while intoxicated charge and admitting he violated probation by committing a new crime. He was convicted of DWI in 2004.

He also was convicted last April of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force found a loaded pistol in his apartment in 2010.
