HEUVELTON – The former Sugarcreek store on the corner of West Lisbon Street and State Street has a new name and a new look.
Stewarts Shops took over the convenience store and gas station last month. Since then ,the store has seen numerous cosmetic updates, including a new sign and new, brighter fuel pumps.
Theyre planning on doing more renovations down the road, Ryan J. Yando, assistant manager, said. He said no official word has come out about a building schedule.
Customers will notice a freshly painted interior, new countertops, re-waxed floors and a rearranged floor-plan stocked with the typical Stewarts products
One of the bigger changes for the Amish community was our kerosene, Mr. Yando said.
Stewarts offers non-dyed kerosene, responding to requests by the Amish community, Mr. Yando said.
[The clear kerosene] burns better in their oil lamps, he said.
Another popular addition has been the Stewarts ice cream.
Weve gotten a pretty good response with the ice cream selection, Mr. Yando said. The stores freezer is stocked with flavors like Birthday Cake and Cotton Candy. The store is open Sunday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 a.m. to midnight.
Its doing really well now, Mr. Yando said.
Stewarts Shops did not return calls seeking comment about their purchase of the store or whether further renovations were planned.
The Heuvelton Stewarts location joins five others that recently have opened in Potsdam, Watertown, Lake Placid and Keeseville.
