POTSDAM - Local metalheads and hard rock fans will have a chance to get their heavy music fix today at SUNY Potsdams Hardcore Music Festival, set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Hurleys Night Club in the Lehman Dining Hall.
The extensive bill will feature eight unsigned hard rock and heavy metal bands from around New York and neighboring states, with each band playing a 45-minute set. The line-up includes Like Lions, Arc Storm, Surrounded by Peace, Vessels, Hivemaster, Collisions in Grey and Red, Meek is Murder and Cherami.
Carter Jones, a guitarist for Collisions in Grey and Red, helped assemble the festivals line-up. He said he chose the line-up based on what bands he found to be talented and hard-working.
The bands are all really sincere, hard-working bands, Mr. Jones said.
As a member of Collisions in Grey and Red, Mr. Jones has played at the Hardcore Music Festival the first two years it was held, and he is excited to play for its third year. He said its a good opportunity for local hard rock fans to see live music in an area with very few venues for live music.
Its just a lot of fun every time. The turnout is always great, Mr. Jones said.
Nick D. Colletti, public relations chair of Student Entertainment Services at SUNY Potsdam, said the festival usually brings out about 100 to 120 concert-goers, and that the event should last about six to seven hours.
General admission is $5 at the door, free for students with ID.
