PRINCETON, N.J. Call the Syracuse University mens lacrosse team the comeback kids for Saturdays performance.
The Orange scored the games final three goals, including senior midfielder JoJo Marascos game winner with two minutes, 32 seconds remaining in regulation, to edge past Princeton, 13-12 in a nonconference game at Princeton Stadium.
Syracuse (7-2), which trailed 9-7 through three quarters, outscored the Tigers, 6-3 in the pivotal final period in a meeting of two teams both ranked eighth in the nation.
Henry Schoonmaker totaled a career-high six points, including four goals, to pace the Orange, which has won seven of its past eight games, including two straight wins.
Marasco contributed a pair of goals and two assists for Syracuse.
After Derek Maltz scored two goals within a span of nine seconds in the fourth quarter to pull the Orange into a 10-10 tie with 10:42 remaining, Princeton responded with a goal each from Chris White and Jeff Froccaro to lead 12-10 with 6:57 left.
Marasco then assisted on a goal each from Billy Ward and Schoonmaker with 4:31 remaining as Syracuse drew even at 12-12. Marasco followed with an unassisted goal which proved to be the decisive tally.
Maltz also contributed an assist, and Kevin Rice finished with a goal and an assist for Syracuse. Luke Cometti chipped in with two assists.
Junior goalie Dominic Lamolinara made 14 saves, also a career high, to record the win for the Orange.
Freshman faceoff specialist Brendan Conroy set a career high with 13 faceoff wins and finished the game 13 of 18 (.722) for the Orange, who won 18 of 29 faceoffs, including a 7-3 edge in the fourth quarter.
Defensive midfielders Matt Harris and Peter Macartney combined to hold Princeton All-American midfielder Tom Schreiber to one goal. Harris also picked up five ground balls and Macartney had two.
Froccaro scored four goals to lead the Tigers (6-3), and Mike MacDonald tallied three goals.
Matt OConnor finished with nine stops for Princeton, which has lost all three of its games this season by one-goal margins.
