SOUTH COLTON - The Colton-Pierrepont varsity softball team relayed the momentum of a five-run surge in the fifth inning into a 12-8 win over Norwood-Norfolk on the opening day of the NAC East Division season on Tuesday at Swift Field.
Sabrina Johnson struck out four in a complete while Morgan Doyle, Andrea Aldous, Eve Whalen and Johnson all singled and drove in two runs.
Tyler McKinley and Courtney Miller also hit safely for the Colts.
Mickey Frego belted two homeruns for N-N and Katie Ames, who went the distance the mound, tripled. Courtney Wagstaff, Carlea Weaver, Aleah Palmer and Megan Stevenson all singled.
The other two NAC softball season-openers on Tuesday took place in the West Division where Hermon-DeKalb turned back Morristown 14-13 and Heuvelton beat Harrisville 21-5. In the only two NAC baseball season debuts played Tuesday, Heuvelton outlasted Harrisville 9-8 in nine innings and Morristown stopped Hermon-DeKalb 10-4.
